You are correct. It appears to be a misprint. The piece is scored so heavily here it gets buried so I'd feature it close to the front of the percussion so it can be seen and heard IMHO. The part might be written that way to allow one person to cover both instruments or the whole part. I have been successful having the cabasa continue along with the djembe as adding more ethnic percussion at 50 is noted in the notes at the beginning of the score. It helps to keep time as well. |
I am confused by the djembe part for Serengeti Dreams.
The djembe part is written on the part that is not labeled djembe and is not on the part that is labeled djembe.
Does the djembe take over the cabasa part at measure 50 or should it double or replace the bass drum part? Or am I missing something obvious?
