I've been having SM issues, too. My old way has been to input my solos w/accomp. into Finale, convert the Finale file into an smp file and then export the smp file into SM Classic. I broke down and got a New Smart Music subscription. New Smart Music will let you import your solos using MusicXML, MIDI or SMZ files. The first time I tried this, I wanted to cry. The instrument sound playback quality was so very bad. |
My Smart Music Classic subscription had expired and I wanted SMC so bad, I called Smart Music up. Smart Music let me renew my Smart Music Classic subscription and gave me some advice about the poor sound quality in New Smart Music. If you want good sound quality, don't upload a MIDI file, even the MusicXL quality can be bad.
The days of having an intelligent accompaniment through SmartMusic is going away with the demise of Smart Music Classic and I know of no other way to have an accompaniment that can follow a performer. The New Smart Music does have some nice features. I like that you can click on place on the performers part that you want the accomp to start at. And the layout along with several other features are easier to use and seem to be more intuitive for younger students. My long term solution will be to limit my student's solo choices to solos where the piano part is easy to play along with.
About the App problem, call the Smart Music people and get them to help you. I would suggest deleting and then re-installing the app, but the app is probably unavailable unless you talk to the Smart Music people. I found life more secure if I downloaded my solos into each of the devices I use for playback. On my laptop, I had to delete the program and re-install.
