Unless you're getting thick pile carpet with a huge pad underneath, it has virtually no acoustic benefit to your classroom. It's usually 1/8" rubber back carpet glued to concrete. That absorbs very little if any sound. Check the Wenger acoustic guide if you don't believe me. Or you can perform this experiment - put a snare drum on a stand on a throw rug, then put it on the stage without anything underneath. You will hear virtually no difference. |
It also has numerous health drawbacks - mold, water, dirt, allergies.
The ONLY benefit carpet gives you is that it's easier on your instruments if you drop them.
Just go with tile - or if you can swing it, composite rubber flooring.
