So in other words it's to so kids don't have to learn and exercise good behavior (a life skill), so they don't have to actually take the time to do work outside of class to complete an essay and to compensate for a weak discipline system. Sorry, I actually taught in a school that had zero fights for the entire year because we had a discipline system that worked and kept better supervision every where including the restrooms and "hidden areas" of the school. If a student got into a fight or other serious infraction, they were punished very severely and lost and privileges for the remainder of the semester or year. If this sounds harsh consider what I said about us having zero fights. |
Block isn't done for 90% of courses.
It's done so English classes can write a full essay, so Science classes can run a full 60 minute lab, and most importantly, so that there are fewer class transitions during the school day.
90% of severe discipline issues (fights) in a school happen during passing periods. If you minimize the number of passing periods, you minimize issues.
