SRF has become the base for my 4th grade recorder and 5th grade beginning band. I can throw line after line of 4 measure lines with as few or as many different note as I want to. Add a second note, third, 4th.... add quarter notes, rests, etc. It is an endless method book that they can't write the letters in for. It plays along for them, it can show letters if you want it to (why would you?) or solfeg, etc. The more I explore it, the more I love it. I am considering getting the student accounts so that they can login on their own, do assignments, etc. |
The other half of my curriculum is cherry picked lines from a regular method book for Band Karate and the recorders are doing regular Recorder Karate. To get a belt, they have to pass-off a line from the book, and a comparative level on sight reading.
In a 30 min lesson, 10-15 minutes SRF, 10-15 min rehearsal on concert music. Karate playing tests once a week.
They are all reading like fiends.
