Baloney. You're paid for football season with your stipend. If you don't make playoffs then your hourly wage is higher, but you're still paid. |
I make my district scale plus a $700 stipend that covers 4 concerts a year, region auditions, region clinic and concert, UIL, sectionals, solo and ensemble, rewriting parts and more. This year that's almost $55k. No extra days even though I teach until the last week of school and spend 2 weeks each summer going through inventory, repairing what I can (to save the district hundreds of dollars) and sending the rest off to be repaired.
Let's compare salaries and stipends and tell me again how you're working for free.
Lets take a moment to talk about the elephant in the room. Starting this month, all across the state, Band Directors, Coaches, Cheer and Dances Sponsors, Trainers, Twirling etc. will be working for no pay.
We will be working for free, literally slave labor, because your football team has performed well. Districts with teams who have failed to perform well are REWARDED for failing. They get to go home on Friday nights and be with their family.
I will be working for free. Do you agree with me that this is slave labor? I think too many people have accepted that its part of the job.
I think UIL should be footing the bill to equally pay us for our time from 1A to 6A. What do you think?
We need to have this conversation.
