Don't go with any ISO from China. I have found that the brand that currently has the most consistent quality is the Yamaha. I like Pearl, but they are harder to get. Trevor James is also good if you can get them. Armstrongs and Gemeinhardts just aren't at the same same level as these. Jupiters, I have a problem with the metal resonance, and the key mechanism has a poorer quality in terms of balance, feel and durability. I like Di Zhao, but I haven't had any around long term. |
The intermediate flute I personally use around the band hall is a Powell Sonare. Great sound (comes with a Powell professional level headjoint), great key mechanism so technique feels smoother and the holes have a great feel so that the kids can fit their finger on the key better. Inside case quality is bad, so the flute get damaged just walkking around with it inside the case.
You Tube has some great flute reviews. Watch "Just Another Flutist", her reviews a spot on.
I am looking for a good beginner/intermediate flute to purchase for my school.
Recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
