You could write a chorale in whole notes following a common jazz progression. |
Thereís a chorale in the back of Rick Lawnís Jazz Ensemble Directorís Manual book, but Iíve never used it. It passes A around all the parts in various chord shapes.
I wrote a set of scale exercises in Bb, Eb, and F, where we play the major, dominant, and Dorian scales in succession, followed by the arpeggios, then a chorale where we simply stack the chord and hold it for 4 beats. It worked wonders for my groupís tuning, and it was easy to transfer into most of our charts because we could identify if it was major, minor, or dominant, play our home base version, then make the new chord match.
Any tips for helping jazz band play better in tune? Any chorals you may suggest?
