We hope that you will be able to join us for the fourth concert of the 2025-26 season of The University of Texas Wind Ensemble. The concert will be held in Bates Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11 and will be repeated at the TMEA Convention on Thursday, February 12 at 8:00 p.m. in Lila Cockrell Theatre. As always, complimentary admission for you and your students may be obtained to the Austin performance through the Bates Box Office: tickets@mail.music.utexas.edu.
This concert will open with Doug Henderson conducting Ron Nelson’s wonderfully colorful Savannah River Holiday Overture. Following the Nelson will be John Gibson’s beautiful new work, Caim, dedicated to the lives lost in the tragic Texas Hill Country flood of 2025. Next will be the world premiere performance of Gao Hong’s Concerto for Pipa and Wind Ensemble, A Musical Journey. The first work of its kind, the composer will appear as the guest soloist. To conclude the concert will be the North American premiere of John Mackey’s The Isle is Full of Noises, Symphony No. 2 for band. Composed in three movements, this twenty-five minute work is destined to take its place as an important new addition to the repertoire.
Due to contractual arrangements with the commissioning organization for the Mackey work, this concert will not be livestreamed, so the only way to experience the performance will be live in Austin, or San Antonio. We hope that you and your students will be able to join us for what is sure to be a thrilling concert.
Warm regards,
