I would consider 10% to be a "solid" number with 20% being "excellent" and 30+% being "stellar", but this is VERY generalized. Many different factors play into it.

Pass out etudes early and review them often in small chunks as you are able. Region Band Auditions Culture is something that takes some time to build up. Be positive about kids just trying their best, and don't hold any kind of results expectations over their head.

Hype it up if they get to miss school for it, and take them to some really good food on those days to get them excited.
