My wife and I were on our way to the event as our son Parker (the Park of BrynnPark) is on the Cy-Ranch indoor line. They were quickly moved as far away from the school as possible, as were all the other groups still in the lot. One of our band parents was in the restroom at the time, and another set of parents was a little down the hall.
I want to public thank the TCGC staff for the professionalism, their communication and their openness. This could have gone far worse, but they really did exactly what they were supposed to.
Huge thanks to the Pearland dad who helped subdue the shooter. That took some guts and possible saved more lives.
Also a big public thank you to the staff at Pasadena Memorial. They made sure kids, teachers and staff were safe and they did it in a professional way.
I know this is a hard time for many of the band/percussion directors. These contests are supposed to be safe places where nothing like this will ever happen. Events like this really put folks on edge and I hope that you all can send out your prayers, thoughts, whatever to the tech, the TCGC staff, PM staff and the those directors who had to face such a terrible night.
Unfortunately, crazy won Saturday.
Please understand that I'm not gonna go political, and will not approve any political posts. This is a day to take stock, remember priorities, and recover.
Thank you for reading.
Tim
