Happy New Year!
I wanted to write to you in regard to a very special concert by The University of Texas Wind Ensemble to take place at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25.
This concert will be the debut performance by the Wind Ensemble in Dell Hall, and will feature two epic works by John Corigliano. Mr. Corigliano, the only composer in history to be the recipient of multiple Grammys,
the Grawemeyer Award, the Pulitzer Prize for Music and the Academy Award for best film score, will join us for a performance of his TRIATHLON, concerto for saxophones with Stephen Page as the soloist.
Additionally, the concert will conclude with a performance of Corigliano’s CIRCUS MAXIMUS, Symphony No. 3 for Large Wind Ensemble, marking the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of this landmark composition.
Beginning the concert will be the world premiere performance of Donald Grantham’s FANFARE FOR THE MAESTRO, written in honor of Jerry Junkin’s 35 years as conductor of the UT Wind Ensemble and 30 years
as Artistic Director and Conductor of the Dallas Winds.
