A bit of background. I retired last June after 18 years at my last gig (final 8 as head).
Of course, I miss working with the kids and I especially miss concert season. But I've kept away and have been occupying my time with other things and have been mostly content.
This morning, I was feeling a little down. No real reason. Just not feeling it I guess. I was driving into town to run some errands when I get a random call from an ex-student (senior DM). He called me to inform me that he had been accepted at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He told me he wanted to tell me before even telling his mom.
Talk about making my day! I actually had to pull over while weeping a bit.
Never, EVER, think that what you do is insignificant and that you don't make any differences. The hours are long and the work hard and frustrating. But remember that you are impacting young lives!
