Working with coaches only works if the coaches are actually wiling to work with you. I remember clearly working with the A.D. and the volleyball coach to set up a summer band schedule to avoid conflicts and to also provide rest time for the athletes in band. I sat down with them in the spring. We all agreed on the schedule. I was the one who compromised from the very beginning and said that I would work around all athletic practices if they would give me their workout schedule so that I could set my schedule for kids and parents. Well, summer band came and the volleyball coach changed his schedule one week before summer band and volleyball started. He changed his times for no reason and his new schedule conflicted with band. Oh, wait he did have a reason for the change. He wanted the girls to, "prove that they are dedicated and have what it takes to go all the way to state." We made a 1 and advanced to area and the volleyball team had a losing season. So, mayve, just maybe, coaches need to also learn to work with others.
