The University of Texas Wind Ensemble will present the fifth concert of our 50th Anniversary Season on Friday, March 1 at 7:30 PM CST in Bates Recital Hall. Complimentary tickets can be reserved in a block from your school and will be held at the box office. Unfortunately, we cannot hold multiple individual requests from a single school. Tickets may be obtained by contacting Dr. Drew Eary at: eary.drew@utexas.edu prior to noon on Thursday, February 29. The concert will open with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, transcribed by the late Donald Hunsberger. Forty years after its premiere, Aaron Copland’s landmark composition for wind ensemble, Emblems, will close the first half.
The second half will feature two consortium premiere performances. Second Nature (Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble) by Viet Cuong will feature four of our amazing saxophone students, Jacob Feldman, Marina Salellakis, Lucy Croasdale, and David Bennette. The concert will conclude with a performance of visiting composer Zhou Tian’s prize-winning work, Sinfonia.
We hope that you and your students can join us for what will be a terrific concert to continue our 18-month-long celebration of this storied ensemble’s golden anniversary. For those of you unable to join us in person, we hope that you will tune into the livestream telecast, to be found here: https://vimeo.com/event/4114599
