I sing solfege in band rehearsals because it's helps me be more accurate. A developed voice is an excellent tool, it's always with you, doesn't need to be plugged in, and better imitates what the musicians are trying to achieve anyway.
Texas born & raised & educated, got the T-shirt. My ear training teacher who emphasized the skill is a violinist and I am indebted to him for pushing the mastery.
Like someone else said, it's been invaluable to bridging cultural gaps. Many of our international students have a musical connection at home and they always use solfege.
