There is a few posts floating around that basically say listen to your kids before you send them to All Region Tryouts. Then comments adding on about how a director is teaching wrong, or doing wrong techniques, how there is no excuse, etc.
I know part of the point is that it feels like a waste of time as a judge to hear students that are unprepared and a waste of time for the student to be somewhere they don't want to be. Plus it makes the process longer.
I get it.
However on a lot of these posts I have yet to see a director ask "How can I help my region with All Region Tryouts?" "My neighboring school is struggling with xyz, how can I help them?"
I've worked as an assistant director that was technically in charge of the middle school, where my head director required me to take all my students. Then busy up my schedule so much that I couldn't work with them. And when those student's ultimately got lower ranks at tryouts, the head director would put me to blame.
I've worked in regions where I have asked fellow directors for help/advice but because I wasn't an alumni from their alma mater I got no response.
I've had principals that "because the last director did it" I must do it too.
There are so many other stories that I have heard from other directors, from it being something out of their control to just being something that they had to learn in their youth.
I'm all for having standards in my classroom. Some students and parents think my standards are even too high. However most of my students and parents know I am consistent with my standards and my standards do not take away from my sympathy.
So unless you have helpful criticism maybe, JUST MAYBE, you should stay silent OR instead of wasting time writing a condescending post, call up those directors that you see their students struggling and ask if you can help. And you will get 1 of 2 responses. 1) A director that is going to do it their way no matter what. or 2) A director that is struggling and is willing to listen.
Just my 2 cents.
