I was in your shoes at onetime for many years. 1 feeder school did what they had to no matter what, kids came somewhat knowledgeable vs. The other feeder school in which kids came to me almost at a 6th grade playing/reading level. It was hard to get these to groups to find middle ground on music/marching. You take a hit, and spend a that of time on fundamentals and request to go Non Varsity that year so you can focus on playing music the right way; clean with good tone even if it's easy. Success will build success if your willing to put in time and commitment my friend.
