I am thankful that a large program head director can see this so clearly. Many years ago, I began to refuse to consider larger districts because of this attitude. I had a family with 3 children still in school who needed that bonding time with both parents at home in the evenings. We, as teachers, often rail against parents who spend little quality time with their parents and yet find ourselves in situations which take quality time away from our own spouses and children. We should practice what we preach. Granted, our choice of teaching field does take some additional time and commitment, similar to what coaches experience. However, that should not be a constant that risks destroying our own families. So, thank you for being perceptive enough and caring enough to change what has been so common in years gone by.
