The University of Texas Wind Ensemble will present our second concert of the spring term on Sunday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m. CST in Bates Recital Hall. Complimentary tickets can be reserved in a block from your school and will be held at the box office. Unfortunately we cannot hold multiple individual requests from a single school. Tickets may be obtained by contacting Mr. Drew Eary at eary.drew@utexas.edu prior to noon on Friday, February 24.
The concert will open with DMA conducting assistant Michael Lebrias leading Professor Donald Grantham’s cornerstone work, Southern Harmony. Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2, conducted by the Assistant Director of the Longhorn Band, Christopher Drew Dickey will follow and the first half will conclude with our new percussion faculty member Ivan Trevino appearing as soloist, along with Professor of Percussion Thomas Burritt in Ivan’s new composition, Run to the Light, commissioned for the Eastman Wind Ensemble’s year-long 70th Anniversary celebration.
Following intermission, DMA conducting assistant Ogechi Ukazu will conduct the premiere performance of her transcription of Clarice Assad’s Sin Fronteras. A new transcription by Jacco Nefs of Juan Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango follows and the program will conclude with Professor Omar Thomas’s Caribana, commissioned by Perform America-TX, LLC and the Midwest Clinic for it’s 75th Anniversary.
