If it fits your students, play it! I taught in East Texas for a while and a few seasoned directors used to say don’t play Sousa and don’t play Grainger. Their reasoning doesn’t matter because it was absurd. They also referred to some modern works as “wrong not drum band” music, so that should tell you everything.
