Most of what we do in public education isn’t for the students. It’s for daylong daycare, beancounters in admin, or politicians.

If it were for the students, the calendar and day wouldn’t start school before 10 AM, we’d go year-round, and we would have a school year not tied to an agricultural calendar from 150 years ago.

Standardized tests would be abolished. And play would be a central part of elementary curricula.
