On a marching show maybe because of the way electronics are used. I often added a bass guitar to my front ensemble but it fit. I don't think you could add a synthesizer to your concert stage band to replace a Tuba. Pretty sure that's against the rules. The Synth would need to be playing an actual written Synth part.
