A 6A band with only 3 tubas has recruitment, instrument fitting and retention issues from beginner band on up through 12th grade.
Earning a performance at the State Marching Contest would be my LAST priority were I the 6A director with only 3 tubas.
Groups at the SMC are great for several reasons but they DEFINITELY have recruitment, instrument fitting and retention challenges dealt with.
