I don't mean my religion. I do not put my church or church activities above my family. I do not choose to leave my family for church - we travel and worship together.
My faith informs me how to be a husband and a father. I had my faith before I had my spouse and my child - a blessing from God in my eyes.
My role with them, how I treat them, and how they fit into my life are informed by my faith. I do not elevate them above my faith in God, but they elevate my faith in God as I believe I am supposed to elevate theirs. My role, as informed by my faith, is to treat my wife as Christ treated the church. To be the spiritual head of my household, and to raise my child in the values taught by my faith.
I do realize that some put their church or their religion above their families. That is not biblical, nor is it correct. It can absolutely be a form of idolatry. I also know that others choose to weaponize their faith for the destruction of others. Both of those are violations of my faith.
I believe that those people are the ones you are referencing.
