I agree. You have to keep things moving with MS kids (heck, with HS kids too.) You have to minimize sectional work in band to keep their attention. Having everyone fingering or playing air drum while humming their parts usually keeps them involved during occasional sectional work. But honestly, you need them ALL playing the majority of every rehearsal. Work the nitty-gritty stuff in after school sectionals. Don't bore the band with too much sectional work during rehearsal! Talkers only become a problem when they are given time to talk. Keep those horns to their lips (and tape your drummers mouths shut). Ha.
