Sometimes there isn't an option for the employer to work around every band activity. Just because a kid demands to have time off doesn't mean the business can or even needs to accommodate. Either the employee can work the assigned hours or they get replaced. A good employer will work around the schedule of a good employee if possible. But how feasible is it for a small business, (not talking about a Whataburger with 40 employees), to work around a marching schedule. Kid walks in and says I need every Monday, Friday, and Saturday off for band from September through November and then I need a few more off in December for Region? Seriously?!? I mean, at the point you can only work 2 days a week maybe it's better for everyone involved to go their separate ways. At some point the employer has to make a decision and most businesses don't make money if they aren't open.......
