We NEED to cap how much is spent. We NEED our UIL contests to be about the music and clean movement. Why is it that in 6A football schools that are clearly title one have no problem getting to the championship but in marching band it is ALWAYS the ones with the most resources and money that monopolize the field. There are a few obvious exceptions all the time, but they never last long.
I agree: want better results TEACH. However, and I will never name names, but there are many programs out there that call in the DCI ringers to do the hard work for their program. I am personally sick of this. I pretty much refuse to work in non-title one schools for this very reason. I feel like a real musician and teacher when I am in front of kids who don't have it all handed to them by privilege and money.
Marching band is becoming a cash cow where the only way to get results is to have a well liked designer do the work for you and have the money.
