I have had the opportunity to be help design 3 band halls. Your input may be limited by budget and clueless administration as in the schools I was involved. I had solid concrete walls at Hallettsville and wanted to do some acoustic treatment like Wenger but my Supt wanted nothing but paint on the walls. It sounded like the worst gym you could imagine. I bought some tectum panels and was allowed to stand them against the walls but they didn't help much. Air conditioning was set at 85° and not adjustable. It was miserable until we found a makeshift solution. I put a hot cup of coffee into a shako and hung it over the thermostat. There were no windows whatsoever. I was glad to leave.
My next bandhall(Merkel)
was a bit better except it was shared with the choir. The choir director wanted it as live as a gym but the band won out and we had Wenger type panels installed.
My last band hall(Honey Grove) I designed better and used Perdue Acoustics to great success. My only big mistake was only one door on the instrument storage room and I was required to have a stage at the rear of the room for theatre. It now works well for the percussion section and extra storage. Its acoustics are great! Purdue was perfect and cheaper than Wenger.
