I got sicker and sicker. I failed a pulmonary function test - which is very scary when one plays a wind instrument. Military docs decided it was a cold induced asthma that only kicked in when it was REALLY cold.
One day we ran bleach cycle through our military issued washer. Three guess what came out eerywhere? Turns out we'd just been soaking our clothes in mold water for six months. What's worse was the fight it took to get it replaced!
As I told them "I have a failed lung function test on record. It is clear this is the issue." Maintenance kept thinking hey were going to fix it, but really that was only going to happen if they took it apart, soaked the components in bleach and let it dry completely. We didn't see that happening with lows in the -30s.
I finally explained that they had until [date] to get it out of the house or I would remove it for them, but I didn't care if it was ever used again, so I'd slide it down the stairs as needed and leave it in the driveway for them. They came before I got home from work on Tuesday.
I'd remind the HR department that it is a bad look when mold winds up on the news. Because we never know who these kids might be connected to somehow. They never cared about us - but they always care about the optics.
