Re: Need help w kids losing music
They are earning a credit and an education. Yes, they are being paid. The options that come into play are simple. Are they willing to put in the "work" for the pay being offered. Is it worth 20 hours a week for what they are receiving. You see, we get paid and get on this board lamenting our lack of pay versus the hours required. yet we ask the kids to be there just as much. So yes, they are getting paid but not in money and thus, we need to make sure we understand that when we ask them to give their time for that credit or experience.
2 - They aren't working for free. If they don't do the minimum expectations of the job they are fired, (lose their spot, lose their chair, lose their ensemble, lose their leadership positoin). They do the job or they suffer consequences. Doing the job means they earn their credit. Don't do the job and don't earn the credit. I don't need to give "bonuses" because they showed up on time and did their job. Bonuses are for earning the "company" extra money and thus you get a cut. Commissions for sales for example are based on beating goals, not meeting them.
