- Student giving feedback to another section. You can try having them stand in front of the band to listen to a phrase then have them give feedback.
- Silent Rehearsing - using nonverbal communication to work a phrase or piece. Then, have a discussion on how they interpreted your instructions/lesson.
I also have themed week days during the Spring which apply to SEL:
Campfire Mondays- Everyone shares 1 positive and 1 delta from the prior week/weekend. I usually address goals and get to just have casual conversations with my students about life and stuff.
Timing Tuesdays - Getting to explore different aspects of theory with other methods (colors, body movements, activities, etc). Usually 5-10 minutes of theory.
Sit Somewhere Else Wednesdays- students sit beside someone in another section or someone they don’t know very well. Must not be their friends.
Team Work Thursdays- sometimes sectional work, sometimes focusing on peer to peer feedback.
Fun Song Friday- Listening to pieces that engage different emotions — happy, sad, thrilling, disappointment, etc. Discussion follows.
