And I seem to remember a district just West of Houston making a big show of "firing" teachers because of budget cuts. Only to rehire nearly all of them 2 days later because they realized they needed them and that their political grandstanding didn't go the way they thought it might.
The only teachers that lose jobs during a recession are the fluff paid for by extra funds. Classroom ratio requirements don't change and recessions don't keep kids home. If the number of students in your building stays the same the number of teachers stays the same. Pretty simple really.
