Anyone who has taught in small schools
(1-2A) has dealt with sharing or not sharing football players. In the last years of my career I taught in a 2A school and was allowed to march all football/cheerleader/band students at half times all season long. The band was expected to do well at UIL marching (25 consecutive years of 1st Divisions) so it was well supported by community, administration, and (reluctantly) by the coaches. My band in the stands was not very large due to cheerleaders and football players absent, but at halftime we would gain 12 to 20 band members. This spirit of cooperation may be unique but worked well for us. What are the practices in your small school programs?
