The school has no pull or influence over an independent physician whose license is on the line or who will end up in court over malpractice if they pass the wrong kid. The school doesn't sign the physical. They just file it. That said, maybe the kids have been sedentary, (mine hasn't changed anything about her activity level because of Covid but I know that isn't a scientific study), or maybe it's something else. Before you can say if it's going away or not you need to know the cause, (i.e. is it a lingering covid issue, is it a sedentary issue with only a few classes of kids, is it different standards, is it isolated to areas that had more remote learning and shutdowns versus schools that stayed closed less time, is it happening across the activities or limited to band kids)....

to the OP - is it happening across all activities in your school or only the band kids?
