Re: Teacher shortage?
I don't know the answer to this but how many MORE teaching positions are needed today than 10 years ago? 20 years ago? Think about how many more buildings there are in the large metro areas in Texas compared to 2000. And how many administrators to fill those new buildings or even expand to handle all of the mandates in existing buildings? In 20 years I bet the Greater Houston metro area has added 15 to 20 5/6 A high schools at least if not more which means 2 plus MS and 4 elementary per high school. And it isn't like rural schools are closing as folks migrate to the larger cities. We just keep adding houses and buildings.
Do we have the same number of folks getting degrees but we have 20 or 30 or 40 percent more classrooms? Many industries are static, (airlines for example have a certain number of pilots and I would bet that number hasn't changed in a decade). Do we need more engineers or just to replace retirees. Education is a field that is continuously growing as every new building opens. So not only does education require replacement for the retired folks it also requires growth for population.
