Every year is harder and harder for me to stay motivated, especially where marching is concerned. Our students are AWESOME and really work hard. But it is very hard to compete with schools that have a high-5 or even 6 figure budget for marching season. It can be very disheartening and honestly I'm pretty much ready to hang it up.
As for new educators, it seems to me that it's getting harder and harder to get certified to teach in Texas. And while the pay has gotten better, it still can't compete with much of the private sector. An example. We just hired a new teacher fresh out of college. While his pay is pretty good, it doesn't compare with a recently graduated niece whose starting pay was just short of $100K (while working remotely).
And yes, I know all the blah blah about not doing it for the money. But like anyone else, we need to be able to eat well and and afford a nice home. God know we work hard enough for it.
(rant over...go eat a taco and get outside.)
