Re: 5th Grade Band
Not to plug another product, but the primary school music teacher has used the "elementary" school music bundle of RhythmBee this year and her kids seemed to enjoy it. She had the kids once a week for 30 min. Each lesson is about 3-5 minutes. It also has several of the introductory RhythmBee lessons. Were it me, I'd use it as a "warm-up" activity for the first 5 minutes of class. The lessons do not require input from you if you choose to run it that way, and if those kids move on to band next year having a good fundamental of counting quarters and eights will make your job a little easier.
Also, and this is just my experience from when I did elementary music methods, lecture-type activities bored the 5th grade class I was in front of. Movement, involvement, or even listening exercises were appreciated. One of my favorite "lessons" was putting up the video for the Darth Maul/Qui-Gon Gin fight with no sound, then adding the sound in for another watch. Kids suddenly understood the importance of good music.
