--Most people start in the "bullpen" cold calling off of phone & address lists purchased from a 3rd party (in many cases, the post office). Basically, you are a telemarketer trying to set up appointments in order to build a client list.
--Be prepared to read from a script on those calls.
--Be prepared to have that phone to your ear all day until you get enough prospects to visit.
--Be prepared to take verbal abuse, and phone slammed in you ear.
--You'll be in the bullpen 3 days out of five. The other two days will be when you have your appointments. When you start making a lot of appointments, you will be in the bullpen less often.
--You're paid on commission. The amount depends on the policies you sell. You also get a percentage of every policy that is renewed at the end of the term. You won't go on salary until you are promoted into management....after you've sold quite a few policies.
--Be prepared to live frugally until you start selling policies on a regular basis.
--You will need to do your own withholding on taxes.
