Start at their level and bring them up to yours. Meaning, don’t instantly set difficult or unobtainable goals.
Success breeds success. They need to feel successful early on and gradually raise the bar.

Showcase every achievement and publicly acknowledge each success along the way.
Select terrific leaders that will share your vision. It is always important to get leaders on board from the start. Student leaders have far more influence (good or bad) than you will have. (Especially in your first years)
I have been in your shoes several times. First years are always tough. People hate change even if it’s for the best.
Be VERY careful in what you change. If it is working ok, go with it and slowly transition into change.
Be very careful how you change traditions (good and bad). The smallest change in traditions can cause you many troubles.
Make sure admin/parent groups are on board before making big changes.
Communicate the “why” in everything you change.
