Know your school board expectations as well as the community. Are you still expected to walk onto the field at UIL and get a 1? Are you still expected to do concert and sight-reading and get a 1. Do you have a program that can handle the Show band style and still do those things? I've seen it done but only with very special directors and very special situations. If there is no UIL expectation and the school board/community/parents are in support full steam ahead.

I've seen folks end their careers for not doing what the admin wanted even though parents did so that is the most important factor in all of this.
