But that doesn’t mean that someone has to voluntarily move to a blighted neighborhood if they have the option to live elsewhere.
A young adult shouldn’t have to live in an area where the police response time is measured in days, not hours or minutes, just because that’s all they can afford. NO ONE should, but that’s not the point.
Equating the two is woefully ignorant. It’s not the job of a first or second year teacher to renew an entire ward of Houston.
And don’t try to tell me what families I know or don’t. I’ve been working in one of the largest urban districts in Texas for over a decade. I deal with “those families” every day. That doesn’t mean I would choose to raise my own family in that community.
Teachers aren’t social workers, community organizers, activists, police, CPS workers, or urban planners. I teach band. Frankly, stay in your lane and do YOUR job. If you think that “we should be doing more” then make a career change to one that can do what you have in mind.
