Santa Fe is small, highly cosmopolitan Capital City of around 80,000 that is over 400 years old. We are one of the oldest (sometimes considered the oldest) city in the US. Santa Fe’s tradition of arts, music, culture, food, and natural beauty make it a destination for visitors from around the world. The city sits at around 7000ft in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (part of the Rocky Mountains). We are a destination for skiers/snowboarders, bikers, campers, hikers, rock climbers, artists, and musicians from every corner of the globe.
Our city is the home of the world-renown Santa Fe Opera, the annual “Burning of Zozobra”, over 200 art galleries, tons of shopping, and (literally) hundreds of restaurants. We are the second largest art market in the US after NYC. With dozens of local professional and amateur ensembles of all kinds, performance opportunities are endless. We are a city devoted to art, and there is always something fun and interesting to do.
Santa Fe enjoys cool, rainy summers (high elevation + monsoon), beautiful, colorful autumns, beautiful snowy winters, and sunny springs. The mountains, piñon, aspen, red-rocks, and incredible sunsets make our location beautiful year-round. We are less than 45 minutes north of Albuquerque (or a 1hr ride on the “RailRunner” commuter train). Albuquerque is a metro of close to 1,000,000, which provides easy access to additional shopping, entertainment, the University of New Mexico, the ABQ Balloon Fiesta, and the Albuquerque “Sunport” International Airport. Santa Fe itself is also home to a busy regional airport with daily flights to cities in TX, CO, and AZ.
Santa Fe Public Schools is one of the highest paid school districts in New Mexico, which is now the most competitive state in the Southwest, thanks to pay new pay increases and teacher raises passed by our state government.
