In another room, a tuba student of mine qualified initially for a different solo that he had memorized. For state he wanted to do a different solo and upon asking different colleagues we had no clear answer on if he had to perform the new solo memorized. The judge made him wait 2 hours after his performance time because he was unsure. ONLY for him to cut my student’s performance to less than half… my student was literally the second to last kid to perform… the judge made my student start in random part of the piece and didn’t even listen to beginning or ending of the piece. How does that allow our students to successfully show their hard work?!
