Re: Band as an "Honors" Course
Tried and was denied. They didn't want to open the floodgates. Basically, if they made my varsity band a "Honor's course" then they would have to make every "varsity" or upper level elective a honor's course and they didn't want to dilute the weighted GPA system. I think the system is dumb and a game and unless you are trying to get to the big 2, (ATM and UT), class rank and weighted GPA are useless (since they cut down the weighted GPA anyway at the collegiate level and a 4.0 is a 4.0 not a 26.0). If you are a small school with few advanced electives you might be okay. If you are a larger school then band, art, theater, choir, and all the last level CTE courses will expect the same treatment.
My child took band for 0 credit their last two years once they received their PE and Fine Arts credit so that it wouldn't go against their GPA. Pass/Fail were not figured in for anything except eligibility.
