But what the judge says to the student should be in line with the rating. Don't tell the student that their performance gave them goosebumps. Not a real professional analysis in my opinion. I think most people would hear that comment and think they received the highest rating.
Judges at TSSEC tend to be all over the place as to what the expectations are. One judge will give an ensemble a 2 for verbally counting off while another one won't care. BTW nothing in the rules says you can't verbally count off. One judge will talk to the student forever trying to entice them to go to their college. One judge will ask the kid what the piece means and another doesn't care if the student knows the background of the piece. My favorite quote from a judge to my all state flute player: "What is a soliloquy?"
