I had a CDL which was required for my position.
After a few years, I could not pass my yearly physical, because I made the mistake of checking the box that said I snored.
The doc said that that combined with my BMI presented worries of Sleep Apnea. I was told I had to get a sleep study.
When I presented the issue that I could not afford a $1,500 sleep study to my Superintendent, he said, "well, I'd hate for you to not come back next year because you can't drive a bus."
At that moment, I knew that was my last year there.
Not having my CDL will mean that some jobs will just be unavailable to me, but I'm fine with that. The bus driving part of band directing was sometimes miserably exhausting and downright unsafe.
