They likely MUST go up for auction before they can be donated anywhere, as Texas state law requires that surplus equipment owned by public entities over a certain dollar amount must be publicly auctioned.

The absolute LAST thing any of us needs in this day and age is to be hauled on the carpet to the local news for "misappropriation of school equipment and funds." That charge sticks a bit harder than anything short of "inappropriate conduct."
