1. It's market value, you are paid what the school board can afford, and thinks your services are worth. That's why some directors with 10 years experience make $45K, and others with the same experience make $65K. 2. Work more efficiently (or "smarter" if you like), and the hours aren't so long. Sorry, you can't help how long Friday nights can be, and you may be able to provide input on the number of contests the band does, but until you are a head director you don't get the final decision. Again, you knew this going into the profession...and nobody forced you to sign that contract.

Considering your attitude about the profession, sounds like you want to drive for Walmart....GOOD! Don't let the door hit you on the backside on the way out. In 6 months, you'll be complaining about having to maintain the speed limit, and not being allowed to ride in the passing lane.
