It takes into assumption that the *only* reason someone would be hired is one of the things that "don't really impact the results." I don't think anyone is saying that qualifications don't matter, but that people of all racial & ethnic backgrounds can be, and are, qualified, but get overlooked because of how they look. Also, one could argue that players might associate/assimilate more closely with someone who looks like them so, in a way, it kind of does impact the results.
It's measurable that the NFL is missing the mark on this topic.
